The Wilding

In the week running up to the Active Travel Festival Storyhouse and Picture House will be showing the film Wilding; the story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate. Their grand rewilding experiment reveals an untapped power of nature to rebound, and offers hope for conserving biodiversity the world over.

Chasing the Sun

On Tuesday 25th June Storyhouse will be screening a special showing of Chasing the Sun

In 1973 a professor in a little known American university sets out to discover the most energy efficient creature on earth: turns out, it’s a human being on a bicycle! The experiment has since entered into legend and is now more relevant than ever before. We explore extraordinary personal stories of ordinary cyclists chasing the sun, revealing the power of the humble bicycle to transform lives and help save the planet.

The film features contributions from broadcaster and ITV’s voice of the Tour de France Ned Boulting, author and blogger Jools Walker, Turner Prize-winning artist Sir Richard Long and 4x Mountain Bike World Champion Tracy Moseley.

Chase The Sun is the UK’s longest one-day endurance cycle event, with 3 simultaneous coast-to-coast sunrise-to-sunset rides all setting off at dawn in England, Scotland and Ireland on 22nd June.

The film is touring the country staging Q&A screenings featuring talks with members of the film’s production team and contributors.

The Rows Time Travelling Treasure Hunt

Chester is under threat from the Time Watchers, a mysterious society of time travellers who hide in pockets of time. They have surfaced in modern day Chester and are threatening to lock us in a pocket of time in the past if we do not provide them with the secret password.

Our participants are tasked with travelling to specific spots in time, solving the clues left by Cestrians of the past along the Rows to reveal the password which will prevent Chester being locked in time forever.

Advised for children 4-11 years. Younger children will require more help from adults than older children. This is a family friendly activity which will take families on a journey exploring all of The Rows. You can download the map yourself or collect one from Chester Visitor Information Centre, Town Hall, Northgate Street, CH1 2HJ

Women of Chester Walking Tour

The tour starts from the Chester Visitor Information Centre, where you can book your spot. It explores the stories of women who lived and worked in Chester. Whether you are new to Chester or a local, there will be something new to intrigue you.
